The East London Theatre Archive (ELTA) is an invaluable database of performing arts resources, from playbills and programmes to press cuttings and photographs. By creating up to 15,000 digital objects, taken from different East London Theatres and V&A Theatre Collections, the archive preserves digitally unique endangered collections making them accessible to an academic audience.
ELTA represents an innovative step towards unlocking the theatrical past of East London for academics and historians on a national and international basis. The East End has made a significant contribution to performing arts in the 19th to 21st centuries and this resource helps to address the need for online resources available to enrich researchers' and academics' knowledge of East London's crucial role in theatre.
ELTA is led by the University of East London and is funded by the JISC Digitisation Programme.
